God has not saved us to become fat with all the biblical knowledge that we eat up on a daily basis. The great commission orders us to “go and make disciples of all the nations!” (Matthew 28:18-20). This is not a subtle suggestion. This is a command! God has saved us from our sin so that we will let His glory shine among all nations. Here’s the wonderful part: The world will see God’s glory through us. The creator God of the universe, the very one who holds everything in His hands wants to manifest His everlasting glory inside unworthy people like you and me. This is HOW He shows His greatness. If you start with a clay pot, you don’t have much to show off. That is what we are in the hands of the great potter. But when God uses us beyond our natural capacities to accomplish something that can only be done by His hands, who gets the glory? The only one who deserves glory. I write this as I am listening to Seventh Day Slumber’s versions of these great songs “Everlasting God”, “How great is our God” and “Mighty to save”. The chorus of that last song goes “Shine your light and let the whole world see, for the glory of the risen King.” Couldn’t have said it better myself!
Reading through the Old Testament, there are numerous examples of situations where not by human strength but by the might of God extraordinary feats were accomplished. And these miracles and wonders took place for only one purpose: To glorify God. One example I just read is found in Isaiah 37:20
“So now, O Lord our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone are the Lord.”
Let us live a life, not on our own capacities, but let us allow God to take us into situations where only His power can do the job. And when He does, let us give glory to God the Father!
