From strength to strength

The valley of Baca, the valley of misery (Psalm 84:6-7). Not a pleasant place to be, for sure. But understanding the necessity of going through this misery and prevailing is essential in our spiritual growth process. God uses times of sorrow in our lives to build us up for His glory. If we stay focused on God even when things are not as we would like them to be, we show persistence and through persistence we ultimately gain a higher level of effectiveness for our purpose in God's kingdom (2 Peter 1:5-9).
It’s good to come to a point of understanding that my strength is not enough but God’s strength is. That’s the point of brokenness. That is the point from where God can start using you. When we realize we’ve come to the end of ourselves. There’s nothing left, we just cannot accomplish anything of worth. That’s where God’s remodeling can begin. Like the song “Take me apart” from Tenth Avenue North says: “I’ll give you all of me for all you are, here I am, take me apart”
God has an abundance of power; it is free to us to tap into at any time. All it takes is our admission of inability to continue struggling. Just like with a drowning swimmer. You have to wait for the victim to stop flailing around first, then the rescuer has a chance to grab them and get them back to safety.
It’s a good place for me, sprawled out at the feet of Jesus, admitting my defeat. It allows me to claim His victory as mine and walk away in His power. And the spiritual warfare I’ve been experiencing is at once put in its proper perspective. The war is already won; the skirmishes are easy with the armor of God. (Eph 6:10-17).
“But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1. Cor. 15:57)
