“Live like we’re dying”

What would you do if you knew today was your last day on this earth? I think how people answer this question is very much indicative of their innermost desire. It defines them as a person. Some would say, I would spend it in a 5 star hotel being pampered and eat the finest foods. Others may say, I would take a race car onto the Daytona speedway and go all out. Yet others would say, I would spend time with my significant other and children. Whatever you would come up with, does it have lasting effects on eternity? Shouldn’t we be concerned with spending those last precious hours doing something that will have value forever? What is that activity, you ask? We have been given a command to “go and make disciples of all the world”, spreading the good news of Jesus, the forgiveness from sin and the possibility of eternal life with God. What if we had only a few hours left on our clock, would we seek out our loved ones that do not know yet? Should we not try to let them know that there is more to life than what we see? This life is temporary, the coming life is eternal. Eternity is a long time. Shouldn’t we be most concerned on how we will spend it? Let’s live every day, as if it is our last day, as if we’re dying. So that we have a sense of urgency to spread the message of God’s love to all people we come into contact with. That way, their last day on earth can be spent the same way: making disciples of all the world.
