God's presence

“This is what the LORD says:
"Heaven is my throne,
and the earth is my footstool.
Where is the house you will build for me?
Where will my resting place be?”
Isaiah 66:1

“I am the LORD their God, who brought them out of Egypt so that I might dwell among them.”
Exodus 29:46

“And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.”
Ephesians 2:22

God wants to dwell with us. That means he wants to move in and not just be a guest in your house or your heart. He should be at home. That makes a huge difference. We don’t expect God to leave us alone when we’ve had enough of him so we can relax and put our old stinky shoes back on when we feel like it….God wants to reside with us permanently. We should want that, more than anything else in this world. God’s presence is what we should seek. We should long to be in his presence. We should feel wrong when God’s presence is no longer with us, because we have departed from his ways. We should want to let go of wrong behaviors and thoughts if they displease God. We should allow God’s finger to point to those areas he is not pleased with and quickly correct them.
“If you obey my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my Father's commands and remain in his love.” John 15:10.
We should have a passion to do what pleases our heavenly father, so that his presence remains with us. If we gather as a church our foremost thought should be, is God with us? Are we in God’s presence? Does he approve? All else should be secondary to our desire to spend time with God. Moses understood the need to stay under God’s protection too well. He said “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here.” A time of waiting for God’s guidance is important. Busy work does not have eternal value. Spending time with God does.
