Egypt

Egypt… Why does it have such a draw on us? I’m talking about going back to Egypt, like the Israelites when they were wandering in the desert those 40 years. Egypt represents what we are comfortable with. It is a well known place for us, a default reaction, and a human response. God wants to change our natural response. We should long for the Promised Land, not for the depravity of Egypt with all its bondage. Human nature is comfortable with inertia. At least this is a known evil…who knows what’s out there beyond the desert. And this is where I understand, that longing for what is behind comes from a misunderstanding of the nature of God. Do we really think that the God, who created the entire universe, including us insignificant human beings, would show malevolence in his plans towards us? Isaiah 29:11 disputes that. It is our own arrogance that makes God out to be a liar. God wants to prosper us; He wants to give us hope and a future. We need to quit defaming God’s character. God’s nature displays love, truth, justice, kindness, gentleness, sufficiency, etc. In fact it says in James 1:17 “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.” That also confirms his unchanging nature. It’s just our spiritual amnesia striking again. God forgive us and redirect our confused minds back to your promised land. Thank you for loving us through our wanderings.
