Preparing for the first of two final exams for the nursing program tonight, I am reminded how some questions regarding patient teaching say, assess the client's willingness to learn. Because if you don't want to learn, you won't. Regardless how good the teacher or the material. You have to be in a place where you're open to receiving instruction. You have to be willing to learn and to accept what is being taught. I think that's what God does with us. When we see other people struggling with something and we really just want to enlighten them by teaching them what they should know, it may not take hold. If they are not in a place where they are willing to accept the instruction, it falls on hard soil.
God is patient with us. He waits for us to be ready to learn. He is truly the master in long suffering. He is the ultimate teacher.
There has to be a humble spirit in the one who is receiving instruction. You have to acknowledge that you don't have the knowledge in you yet. You have to recognize that your teacher does and have an anticipatory attitude. If you are open and willing to receive the lesson, it will be effective.
So often I find myself prideful or simply rebellious in situations where I should just be quiet and humble.
Thank you God for providing everything we need in form of the Fruit of the Spirit described in Galatians 5:22-26.
"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other. "
