“The LORD said to Moses, “Speak to the people of Israel, and tell them to make tassels on the corners of their garments throughout their generations, and to put a cord of blue on the tassel of each corner. And it shall be a tassel for you to look at and remember all the commandments of the LORD, to do them, not to follow after your own heart and your own eyes, which you are inclined to whore after. So you shall remember and do all my commandments, and be holy to your God. I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt to be your God: I am the LORD your God.”

I love the idea to use something tangible to keep the intangible in line. It is important to remind ourselves daily and even minute by minute at times, to stay on track. Our hearts are self-seeking by nature and sinning comes natural to us. We have to actively steer against the desires of our hearts in order for us to live a life pleasing to our heavenly father. I have done a presentation on the Jewish culture during my studies and thought it was weird to have those tassels hanging out of their shirts, but now reading the instructions in the Bible, it makes sense. It’s like a caution sign or maybe even a stop sign on the road telling us “don’t go there!” Let’s not get lax in our observance of these reminders that caution us when we are entering dangerous territory. Listen to the Holy Spirit and obey. Because prevention is better than repentance. At least in my book. Less regrets in the long run.
