A spirit of unity

“Behold, how good and pleasant it is when brothers dwell in unity” Psalm 133:1

There is nothing worse in my mind than division, malice, gossip, exclusion and cliques when it comes to any group of people. Seems these conditions befall females more so than males…not questioning God’s decision, but life appears easier for the male of the species once again. Unfortunately I don’t understand that innate desire of people to rule over others, to make their group of friends an exclusive clique where they gossip and talk negatively about the outsiders. This is very painful for those on the outside. It makes me angry. What makes those insiders so much better than the others? It’s like the attitude that we see all over the world, and I guess also in men. There are even examples of this wrong behavior in the bible. Thank God the barriers between Jews and gentiles were broken with the dream Peter had about the unclean foods that he should eat. This represented the non-Jews that he was supposed to bring the gospel to. And let’s not forget Paul, who took his mission field all the way to the heart of the Roman Empire. Let us not get caught up in our own little cliques, but let us always be open to everyone, loving them, just as Jesus loves us. We should be accepting, not judging. We should love, not reject. We should reach out, instead of close ourselves off from the outsiders. It is God’s will for us. He enjoys a spirit of unity, and of course love. Let us love with words and deeds…with a heart full of humility and kindness.
