I love the passage in Ezekiel 37 about the valley of dry bones. Ezekiel sees a valley full of dead bones, no life left in them, no flesh on them, completely hopeless situation from a human standpoint. God tells him they will be brought back to life. The question Ezekiel has to answer is a tough one, can it be done? From the human standpoint, no. If he replied, sure, he’d be lying. Not what you wanna do with God. So he gave the only viable answer: through supernatural means, if it’s your will, God, yep, then it should be doable. And that is how we should approach hopeless situations in our life. If we have given up on a relationship, on a job situation, on our finances or our church, whatever may seem dead and gone to you, no way to bring it back to life, don’t stop there. Even though things seem hopeless from our finite point of view, in God’s eyes there’s life to be recreated. The way Ezekiel describes the process of returning life into those old bones is awesome. Not only do I say that from a nurses’ standpoint, you know I love the gory details, but it shows that God starts from the inside out. The heart has to be renewed. Then he describes how the bonds have to be recreated in form of sinews and muscles to connect the bones. The flesh and blood is recreated and the outward appearance is restored with the skin. After God is finished with his full on restoration project, everything is brand new and functioning. God is an absolutely awesome engineer and physician. He knows us inside and out. He made us, he knew us before we were formed. So we can trust our lives and our hopeless situations to the one who knows how to restore it back to life. What an awesome God we serve. Hallelujah!
