When somebody says “Follow your heart!” be weary! The heart is the place where sinful desires are born and if allowed to grow it will turn your head into mush and cloud your view. That’s what the devil does best. He promotes sin in an appealing package, promising the world and eternal satisfaction is guaranteed….beware of the source! He is known as the father of lies and he is good at his marketing campaign. If you allow yourself to be enticed, you will find an empty box that does not bring lasting satisfaction, but disappointment, pain and grief. It will take you out of fellowship with your creator who truly loves you and wants only the best for you. Our problem is the same with spiritual as it is with worldly things: we believe the advertisement. Those infomercials on TV or those ads on our computer have gotten under our skin and we believe what they are telling us, because we want to believe it. Same with spiritual matters. We don’t want to obey God and wait for His fulfillment of our desires. We want to take matters into our own hands and that’s where sin starts. Fulfilling our own desires our own way IS sin. The bad thing about toying with the idea of sin is that it starts clouding our view, as I said. The biblical truths that are so clear to us when we walk in God’s will, will become blurry. And that’s when we will no longer see sin as sin, but think it is something good for us. Then we start slipping away into the mire, which will exert suction on us to pull us down further and further. Even though sin seems like fun, don’t believe the lie. Stick with God’s way, which is the right way!
James 1:14-16 (New International Version)
"But each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death. Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. "
