Quality time
I don’t think anyone longs for their time in the (spiritual) desert, but I just listened to a series of sermons that shows how vital those times are. We grow spiritually when we isolate ourselves for quiet time with God. Those are the times we are separated from other people and we spend quality time with our heavenly father. We don’t have to clean up our act first, but we can bring our raw emotions before God. He is big enough to take it. The important part about venting to God is, to stay there until He softens our heart so we can react in a godly manner. If we take our gripes elsewhere, we are going wrong already. If we feel upset about something or someone we need to bring those feelings to our God. I read something to that effect earlier this week already and during this sermon it was reiterated. God created us in his image, with the whole gambit of emotions. Real change can only happen when we get alone with God and we open ourselves up to Him. Nothing can be off limits. If God wants to take something from us, we should offer it up to him voluntarily. God knows best, so why try to fight him? That seems silly, but we do it daily. We should give him our finances, our decisions, our dreams, our relationships, our jobs, our schooling and our hobbies. Our lives should be lived single-mindedly, not excluding any aspect of our lives from God’s control and involvement. God should be the first person we go to when we have decisions to make. And I don’t mean just the big decisions about house, car, job, move etc. But we should bring EVERY NEED to him. So when we need groceries, gas, clothes, how about pray about it? God is waiting to provide our needs. I love to see how God works in the small things especially. And God loves to wow us with his thoughtfulness. After all we are more important to him than the lilies of the field, right?
